Santarchy!
What The Ho?

Every December for the last 14 years, Cacophonous Santas have been visiting cities around the world, engaging in a bit of Santarchy as part of the annual Santacon events.

It all started back in 1994 when several dozen Cheap Suit Santas paid a visit to downtown San Francisco for a night of Kringle Kaos. Things have reached Critical Xmas and Santarchy is now a global phenomenon.

You'd better watch out! Santa's coming to town!

Santarchy! Mini-FAQ

  1. For the most part Santarchy! is an archive only. We don't do any active planning on this website, however we will mention upcoming Santacons that have their information posted online.

  2. If you are looking for Santacon planning info, try contacting your local lodge of The Cacophony Society or the Santacon and Santarchy tribes.

  3. We do not condone or encourage any kind of vandalism or violence at a Santacon event. Our santas do not destroy property, steal merchandise or do harm to others.

  4. Santarchy is not a movement, that's what you do in the bathroom. In addition to that, the annual Santacon events are not a protest against Christmas or commercialization. Really, it's just a bunch of santas getting together to have a good time.

  5. We do not provide or sell any stock photos or video footage and all images on this website are copyright of their owners. If you want to use any photos or videos on this website, please contact the owner directly.

  6. We do not do interviews with the media and so on. We're not actively involved with organizing any of the Santacon events (see #1), so if you are looking for people to interview, try contacting the organizers of various regional Santacon events.

  7. We have absolutly nothing to do with any idiot santas you may have heard about in New Zealand. Contrary to misreporting by the media, they are not associated Santarchy or the Santacon events.

  8. If you came here looking for Chuck Palahniuk, he's the one drinking cheap tequila over here.

That’s right, it’s santarchy.com, now with blog, powered by the santastic WordPress.

Special thanks to Factory Joe for a little pre-launch design advice. We’ll leave something nice under the tree for him.

Damn that was sooooo much fun on Saturday in Los Angeles. I’ve got 211 pictures from my camera up on http://www.cityhicks.com/gallery/v/SantaCon2005/ and another 150 coming in sometime this week.

Remember Santa, all I ever wanted for x-mas is Hookers and Blow. Please see that my wish is full filled.

Ram your beards where the Sun don’t shine. Anyone who would do something directed to harm children deserves to have their beards caught in a wheat thrasher, and whatever happens is for the best—for those of us who are left!!!!!!!!!

You are merely thugs, thieves and hoodlums, but worse, you idiots do it in a manner that harms children by attacking a beloved figure in many children’s lives.

You CLAIM to be doing this for CHRISTIAN reasons?!?!?!? NO WAY. The people you hurt the most are CHRISTIAN kids!!!!!!! I reufuse to put online the words that I feel truly describe you, lest a child make their way here, but you can guess what they would be. I cannot think of many folks that I would find more deserving of contempt. You are right down there with child molesters and other SCUM of the Earth!

Who said anything about it being Christian or harming children in any way? Maybe you’re concerned about your own repressed feelings regarding Santa Claus.

Geez - can’t anyone take a joke around here?

    “A Real Santa”:

You broke the code! Santarchy is, in fact, but the first spice filled volley against the bright, shiny and easily digested package of christian values under society’s collective tree. As SANTA is the embodiment of christmas’s true purpose, we plan to wage war against it for the hearts and minds of children everywhere. Once the image of SANTA has been sullied beyond all redemption, the little ones will face a bleak future devoid of spiritual purpose and will be ripe for exploitation in our Extreme Labor Facility (ELF) workshops.

The yule time reckoning is almost upon us. Can I get a ‘Ho’?

    HO!

Once again, the use of Santa and Christmas are co-opted by the Christian “right” to the exclusion of all other faiths and cultural groups. In response, Santa has issued the following statement for immediate release:

“Attention all Christmas devotees and opponents. I have been advised by my legal counsel to clarify my long-standing policy of equal opportunity employment and cultural diversity.

At this, the beginnings of the 21st century, I am pleased to see that the overwhelming commercialism of Christmas has expanded a once-religious holiday from a single night of worship to a season of cheer, boozy dairy drinks, and overeating that all people can enjoy. The fact that the US’s economy pretty much depends on the Christmas sales cycle is a bonus.

    Mazel tov!

    SANTA IS NOW A

My wrath was intended to be directed at those idiots who are committing crimes, and otherwise denigrating Santa’s image in a manner which is likely to be seen by ‘Western’ kids. This would include drunken antics, whether a crime or just unsavory acts.

The news story I read posted this site’s URL as the ‘home’ for these morons. If you are truly no longer acting in idiotic ways while dressed as Santa, then those of you who aren’t need not be offended, as I was NOT talking about you.

To further make a couple things clear.

    1) I am NOT a Christian–or anything else.

    2) I happen to think that people who act like idiots around kids are jerks of a high order.

    3) I was aksed who said anything about the ‘movement’ being christian, or hurting kids. . . The news story on Reuters, that is who. Again, if it doesn’t apply to YOU, then neither do my comments. As for harming kids; prematurely taking away, or spewing ‘mud’ on a child’s view of their mythological figures does them harm.

As for those of you who are merely having good clean fun in a cheesy suit, in all adult gatherings, or clean fun in a gathering where the kids KNOW that it is just ‘normal’ (haha) adults in cheap costumes, and in no way reflecting poorly upon their mythology… more power to ya.

Sure I can take a joke, but what I read was nothing to laugh at. Blame Reuters! http://reuters.iwon.com//article/20051219/2005-12-19T164553Z_01_EIC949001_RTRIDST_0_ODD-NEWZEALAND-SANTA-DC.html

Can ya get a “ho?”… Sure, but I don’t know if ya can do better. ;-)

I’m not seeing any reference to children in the Reuters article. Perhaps it’s your own association.

What happened in Aukland has nothing to do with anyone associated with this site or any Santacon that has taken place for the past 12 years. You’re in the wrong place if your intention is to place blame on Santacon demystifying a childhood icon. No one is sullying the name of Santa here. Just having fun with the jolly ole boy. Nothing more, nothing less.
